CHICAGO IMPROV FESTIVAL PUTS THE FOCUS ON COMMUNITY WITH ITS 13TH ANNUAL FESTIVAL, APRIL 19-25

CHICAGO - The Chicago Improv Festival has made its final selection of acts and ensembles for the 13th annual festival, which is being held April 19-25. The festival, which is celebrating the vast community of improv, will showcase 65 acts and ensembles, with five apprentice teams, including the College Improv Tournament Champions from Northwestern University. Homegrown talent will be on display with 38 ensembles from the Chicago area along with ensembles from 24 different cities and eight countries. Tickets for the festival will go on sale April 1 and can be purchased through www.chicagoimprovfestival.org.

"I am proud to be presenting passionate performers with unique interpretations of what 'improvisation' can be, from both here in Chicago and around the world", says co-artistic director Jet Eveleth. "It is our mission is to be the messengers of the many faces of improv theater and comedy."

"We have eight international improv ensembles performing at CIF 2010, which is more countries than any other previous year," adds Jonathan Pitts, executive director. "It's a pretty exciting opportunity to be able to connect Chicago's improv community to the world's improvisers, and the world's improvisers to Chicago's improv community."

The Chicago Improv Festival is also proud to announce Harold Ramis, Dick Schaal and Severn Darden (accepted by his widow, Heather Darden) as the recipients of the 2010 Lifetime Achievement Award. Also part of the awards is Susan Messing who will be named "Improviser of the Year" and Improvised Shakespeare Co. as "Ensemble of the Year." The Lifetime Achievement Awards will take place during the Chicago Improv Festival on Wednesday, April 21 at 7 p.m. at The Second City ETC. Complete event and ticket information will be announced at a later date.

The Chicago Improv Festival will be held in 12 locations, including venues in Chicago's vast improv community including: Annoyance Theater, Apollo Theater Studio, Athenauem Theatre Studio, Chemically Imbalanced Theater, ComedySportz Chicago, Gorilla Tango Theater, IO Comedy Theater, Laugh Out Loud Theater, Martyrs, The Playground, The Second City DeMaat Theater, The Second City ETC, and The Second City Skybox.
