REVOLVING MADNESS
Showcase @ The Playground, 3209 N. Halsted
Friday, April 27
12am
Revolving Madness is a quartet based in San Francisco. Defiantly working without suggestion or structure, the group improvises employing a dazzling combination of physicality and sound, weaving an intoxicating tapestry of scenes featuring sharply observed characters and painfully funny relationships.
Graduates of the acting program at UC Santa Barbara, where their instructors included movement/clown master James Donlon, playwright Naomi Iizuka, comedian John Cleese and improv historian Kim “Howard” Johnson, the group first came together in 2003 as a masters thesis project by director Jason Davids Scott. Since establishing themselves in San Francisco in 2004, they have performed at the San Francisco Improv Festival and San Francisco Fringe Festival, as well as extended runs at the Climate Theatre and other local venues. Other appearances include Toronto (Improv Festival 2006), New York (the Producer’s Club), Los Angeles (at the IO West Festival and the Westside Eclectic), and Santa Barbara (UCSB’s performance series I.V. Live).
Revolving Madness has been featured in articles published in The San Francisco Chronicle, Backstage and yesand.com. They are thrilled to be performing for the first time in Chicago, continuing a tradition of radical long-form that began with groups like ED and Jazz Freddy.
Their onstage antics are so well hewn many audience members refuse to believe the performances are unscripted. - The San Francisco Chronicle
